One of Lyn's eBay practice quilts.

Lyn knew that she had inherited some of her mother's finished quilt tops and her quilting and crafting supplies, but they had been kept in a storage unit until she was ready to go through everything. When her studio was ready, she began unpacking and to her great surprise she found 25 finished quilt tops and 5 sets of blocks that were ready to be put together. What a treasure!

Being reluctant to practice her new longarm skills on her mother's precious quilt tops, Lyn purchased finished quilt tops on eBay and used those. Since then, she has become an accomplished longarm quilter and has been in business officially for almost a year. She does beautiful work! (Click here to see some of her beautiful quilting examples.) It was her husband who came up with a great idea for her business name - Camlyn Quilts - because it combines her name and her mother's.

“I wish she was here to walk this new adventure with me, but I know that she is happy that she helped me to start this business,” says Lyn. “She would have been thrilled to see me in the quilting business.”

Lyn made this quilt for the baby of a nephew in the Air Force.

Over the years, Lyn has made many baby blankets for friends. She thinks it would be wonderful if they were handed on down because, “they are an old-fashioned part of history.” She enjoys paper piecing because she loves the precise points that she can achieve. Since purchasing her longarm machine, she has discovered that what she loves best about quilting is the quilting. It gives her great pleasure to see what designs she can create and she always aims for a quilt design that will also make a lovely pattern on the quilt back.

Lyn offers different ranges of quilting, from the very basic meander to more intricate designs. She likes to make sure that the backs of the quilts are as pleasing to the eye as the fronts are. She enjoys talking with new customers to find out how they want their finished quilts to look, whether they want the quilting to show, or whether they want it kept simple so that their piecing stands out.

She also makes and sells beautiful quilts. Some are made from her mother's beautiful quilt tops, some from well-made tops from eBay, and some of her own. Visit her web pages to see more samples of her lovely work.

One of Lyn's hopes is to create the quilt of her dreams and enter it in county fairs and quilt shows.

Quilt Tool Review
Guidelines™ Ruler
Guidelines Additional Parts

In the December issue, I brought the new Guidelines™ Ruler's Three Additional Parts to your attention. I explained their use and mentioned that I was looking forward to owning and using them. They arrived shortly afterwards and I am thoroughly enjoying using them! They are great tools to add to your collection! The Guidelines™ Ruler is always my favourite to use and my first choice.

They attach simply, quickly, easily, and firmly to the Guidelines™ Ruler when needed and are just as quickly and easily removed afterwards. Only seconds are needed. They are very handy and clever tools indeed! As mentioned before, using them makes cutting half square triangles (HSTs) quarter square triangles (QST's) quick and fun to do with no math involved! They make cutting Nine Patch blocks and others with a mixture of squares, HSTs and QSTs easy because you simply add the S, H, or Q attachment as needed and continue cutting!

Visit the Guidelines™ 4 Quilting website for more illustrations, more information, and to purchase these additional parts.

Matset — Mat's Sewing Extension Tables

Click here to see more samples.

These wonderful extension tables are beautifully and individually made by Mat Reitzug whose craftmanship is absolutely superb!

They are made from wood and are surprisingly, very light. The finish is amazingly smooth and silky to feel. Mat's attention to detail and his high standards of work apply to the underside of his extension tables as well.

The Easy Access Bobbin Slide

As can be seen in the photograph above, left, these tables are made to fit our machines snugly, and well. Customers can request a model with an Easy Access Bobbin Slide which is shown in the photograph above on the right. This section slides out easily is replaced just as easily.

The legs that come with the table are removable and can be extended or shortened so that the table is at exactly the right level for the sewing machine. They have a special base which makes them non slip and protects table surfaces.

I am simply delighted with my extension table, and in fact, there is only one negative factor. Mat is about to take leave of his business for a long while and is only taking new orders for two more weeks. So . . .
